Gala Celebration: William Cullen Bryant's Birthday

The program will begin in the main house, where Christina M. Rau, Cedarmere 2022 poet-in-residence, will read a selection of poems she composed during her August residence and earlier work. Her poetry is grounded in the Long Island landscape, with a focus on human resilience in the face of nature's powerful rhythms, similar in ways to Bryant's response in his poetry to the natural world. She will also introduce three poets who will each read a poem inspired by the

poetry workshop she led. 

Immediately following the poetry reading, at 4:30 pm, we will walk down the hill for a birthday celebration, with refreshments, in Bryant's beautiful 1862 Gothic Revival mill, with art created out of doors during the October Cedarmere "Plein Air" event. The winners of the painting competition will be announced and the paintings offered for sale.

There will be an opportunity to meet the artists. The Friends welcome a voluntary contribution and memberships to help support the restoration of Bryant's Mill and poetry, music and art programs.
